FEBRUARY 2010
The March curriculum calendar is attached with the February newsletter. My intentions are to assist parents/caregivers with upcoming special events and Spring Break dates.

VALENTINE’S PARTY AND DANCE:
February is friendship month at Discovery Preschool. As mentioned in last month’s newsletter we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12 with a party and dance. Family and friends are welcome to join in the fun!  This year I am asking that parents send the valentines to preschool by Tuesday / Wednesday BEFORE the Valentines Party.  We have found that the party day activities run smoothest when the teachers  organize the valentines before the class period. If you are sending candy treats please check for  peanut ingredients.
The Valentine’s Day begins with free-play activities as parents and teachers finish the party preparations. Our day will continue with a short circle- time of Valentine songs to be followed by the main event of the opening of valentines. It is always nice to have extra adults to read and assist the children with this activity. Following the opening of valentines we will have snack. After snack is our “Sweetheart Dance”. Our day will wind down with a Valentine story or short video.

The VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR FIELD TRIP -FEB.18
I have made a few phone calls and there are still tickets available for the play in Oshkosh as well as seats on the bus. Please talk to Mrs. Kerch if you are interested in joining us.

BRAIN GAMES AND SCREENING:
In February the teachers will begin the “brain games” and activities screening for the spring developmental checklist. Our goal is to have reports available to parents before the public school kindergarten screening. Parent/teacher conferences for interested families will be held after the spring break.

FEBRUARY FOOD PANTRY ITEM: OATMEAL or BOXED CEREAL

BOOK ORDERS: DUE BACK BY FEBRUARY 22/23.

MARCH 2010

March weather is often unpredictable, changing from rain to snow to sun in the very same hour. Preschool I can predict will be filled with exciting units and projects. Please refer to the calendar for March lesson plans and special events.

911 FOR YOUR TEDDY: MEDICAL LEARNING STATIONS DAY- MARCH 22 AND 23
On Monday, March 22 AM and PM classes and Tuesday, March 23 AM Discovery preschool will be organizing and hosting various medical professionals and learning stations.   Parents and family friends are needed to supervise small groups of children as they explore and learn about lung functions, digestion, casting and more. Please sign up at preschool if you can assist us. Students should bring a teddy bear, stuffy or doll to school to practice bandaging techniques.

SPRING BREAK
Spring Break is April 2 through April 9. School resumes Monday, April 12.
During the spring break my husband and I will be traveling to Germany to visit with our little granddaughter. (YAHOO!) I will miss four school days: Monday, March 29 through Thursday, April 1.  During my absence you can call Deanna Kunkel 748- 6060, or Kari Schneider 369-0173 with any questions you may have.

FOOD PANTRY ITEM FOR MARCH: is Mac’n cheese.

BOOK ORDERS: I will send out new book orders the beginning of March.
